Sydney wedding photographer for couples who don’t want a photoshoot — I’ll stay out of the way, keep you out of poses, and step in only when you need help.

Small weddings, elopements, backyard lunches.

That minute before you walk in

— you won't have to think about the camera.

The part you keep replaying isn’t the photos. It’s the moment before everything shifts — the cramped room, the sudden quiet, the second everyone turns.
You don’t want a stranger directing your face and body all day.
You don’t want to burn hours doing takes for a camera.
You want a gallery that drops you back into what actually happened: the glances, the nerves, the relief, the little in-between moments you didn’t realise mattered until they were gone.

That’s how I work — present when something’s unfolding, out of your space the second it isn’t. I’ll step in only when you need steadying, then I’m gone again so the day stays yours.

Weddings are the heart of what I do, but not the only part.

I also photograph maternity, couples, newborn and family sessions with the same natural approach: quiet direction, honest expressions, and no heavy-handed posing.

So if you found me for a wedding and want to come back later for the rest of life, you can.
That continuity matters more than people think.

"Our elopEment DAY in Sydney CBD was so fun.  Nao made me feel like we were just by ourselves."

YOU Don't need to stress about wedding photography in sydney

Most camera-shy couples dread traditional  wedding photography because constant direction and posing makes them feel exposed and unnatural. We use quiet observation and gentle film-inspired direction instead, so you actually enjoy your day while getting authentically beautiful photos that finally show who you really are.

For introverts (cat people welcome) who’d rather be reading than planning a seating chart. I specialise in intimate ceremonies under 50 guests — though I’ll photograph a bigger wedding when your mum won’t let you elope.

Saturday afternoon in Pyrmont. A registry ceremony. Twenty guests, maybe thirty. Vows that catch in your throat because everyone’s watching. And then the part I love most: the moment right after, when you finally breathe out and think—oh. we’re married.

Then it’s lunch somewhere local, backyard drinks, or a picnic at Observatory Hill.
No choreographed timeline. No performance. Just a day that feels like yours.

I photograph small weddings, elopements, and maternity sessions for people who want to remember their day — not manage 200 guests like a project plan.

Maternity sessions are quieter. Usually golden hour at Coogee or North Curl Curl. We’ll walk, talk, and let the moments arrive naturally. Gown optional. Always.

On weekdays, I’m also a solicitor — which means I’m early, prepared, and I’ll tell you (kindly) if your schedule is mathematically impossible. I speak Japanese and English, shoot digital and film depending on the day, and work throughout Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley, and Central Coast.

You’ll get a few portraits your mum can frame.
Then I’ll disappear and let you enjoy your celebration.

Sharp is the baseline. Craft is the difference for wedding photography

Modern cameras make it easy to get sharp, well-exposed images. What they don’t do is turn a real day — changing light, mixed indoor colour, fast moments — into a gallery that feels consistent, cinematic, and unmistakably yours.

That’s the work: matching skin tones as light shifts, correcting mixed lighting, removing distractions, and shaping hundreds of frames into one calm, coherent story.

I hand-edit every image for weddings and maternity sessions, and I tailor the finish to suit you: film-inspired, bright + clean, or moody (the quiet kind).

A wedding isn’t a practice shoot. You get one chance.

This is what editing does. Drag the slider. Same approach, same care — maternity included.

“I forgot you were even there.”

...Couples tell me that when they see their gallery — because the day felt like a wedding, not a photoshoot.

I’m Nao, a Sydney documentary wedding + maternity photographer for people who go quiet the second a camera shows up.

I shoot the real things: your dad’s face during the vows, the exhale when it’s finally just the two of you, the glance nobody else caught.

I’ll step in when you need it — family photos, gentle direction, timeline nudges — then I disappear again so you can live your day.

I’m camera-shy too, and I’m bilingual (Japanese/English), so multicultural  and Asian families don’t get split into “the other side of the room.”

I’m also a practising solicitor, which means I plan like one: calm, precise, and allergic to chaos.

Quiet doesn’t mean boring. It means real.

Limited DATES available

When you freeze, I give you one simple move.
Then I step back and let the moment keep going.
I step in at the pressure points: arriving, family photos, and that first quiet minute when you suddenly feel watched. No routines. No “hold that.” No repeating a reaction because the light was better. Just enough direction to keep you moving and looking like yourselves — not like you’re performing your own day.

NEED a LAst minute photographer?

Contact me anyway! I will do everything, if possible, to help you.   There is also nothing wrong about a last minute photoshoot too.

We had a small backyard ceremony in Leichhardt — maybe 30 people, homemade food, fairy lights. We were terrified it would feel too casual for photos. Instead, the gallery looks like a film. She caught my mum crying before I did. I didn't even know that happened.

No posing routines. No guessing where to look.

Your Wedding Photographer in SYDNEY & the East Coast

Guidance that stays small

I catch what happens in the gaps.

The minute before you walk in.
The exhale right after the vows.
The images you’ll care about most aren’t the ones you planned. They’re the ones that slip through while you’re busy being in it — hands fidgeting, a glance that steadies you, someone crying in the back row, the relief when it’s finally done. I work close enough to catch those shifts without turning them into a scene.

When plans slip, the story doesn’t

Timelines run late. Weather turns. People get intense.
Your photos don’t become another thing to manage.
If the room tightens or the schedule slides, I adapt quietly — shift locations, use what’s there, keep things moving without announcing it. You get honest coverage without chaos, and you don’t spend the day babysitting a camera. I’ll steady you when you need it, then disappear again so the day stays yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sydney Wedding Photography

Yes. I'm proudly LGBTQI‑friendly and regularly photograph same‑sex and rainbow‑family weddings across Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Hunter Valley. I create a relaxed, inclusive environment so you can feel completely yourselves, and focus on your love rather than labels. If you're planning an LGBTQI ceremony or intimate celebration, please let me know in your enquiry and I'll tailor the experience to match your story. I've shot photos for a group who marched in Mardi Gras and it was so fun.
I aim to offer good value rather than "cheap" wedding photography. My mid‑range packages are designed to suit small and intimate weddings, with 6‑hour coverage starting around $2,500. I keep hidden costs low and focus on quality, natural storytelling moments, so you get meaningful photos without a huge budget blowout.
Yes. I offer flexible payment plans so you can spread the cost over time. Typically you'll pay a deposit to secure your date, then split the remaining balance into 2–3 instalments leading up to the wedding. There are no extra fees for this — just a clear, transparent schedule that makes budgeting easier for you.
Absolutely. I love small and last‑minute weddings and have a streamlined process for quick bookings. My 6‑hour package and 3‑hour elopement‑style coverage work well for intimate ceremonies and micro‑weddings in Sydney CBD, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Hunter Valley. Just mention your timeline and size in your enquiry and I'll confirm date availability and the best fit for you.
If you want beautiful photos on a tighter budget, smaller packages are a great option. I offer 3‑hour elopement‑style coverage and 6‑hour packages that prioritise key moments rather than full‑day coverage. Choosing digital‑only files instead of albums and prints can also help keep costs down while still giving you a full, natural storytelling gallery.
Yes, as a thank you for your service, I offer a 10% discount on all wedding, engagement, maternity, and family packages for current Australian Defence Force members, veterans, and their immediate family. Simply mention your service when enquiring and provide verification (Defence ID, DVA card, or similar). This discount applies to coverage fees and can be combined with instalment plans — because your love story deserves to be captured beautifully. I've shot portraits for veterans at ANZAC Memorial on ANZAC Day after the march too.
